PURIFICATION OF 1-NITROANTHRAQUINONE Abstract of the Disclosure This invention provides a purification process for crude 1-nitroanthraquinone which comprises treating the crude 1-nitroanthraquinone with a base or a basic hydrolysable salt, in the presence of a solvent and at a temperature above room temperature, and isolating the purified 1-nitroanthraquinone. The process particularly removes substantial proportions of dinitroanthraquinones and oxidation products.
