2108261 9219999 PCTABS00017 A push-pull optical fiber connector (20) which is compatible with ST-type receptacles. The connector includes a hollow, cylindrical backbone (24), a ferrule holder (38) located in one end of the backbone, a ferrule (40) affixed to the ferrule holder, a clamp (30) at the other end of the backbone (24) securing the strength member (26) of the optical fiber to the backbone, and two flexible arms (50) attached to the outer surface of the backbone (24) having apertures which latch onto the bayonet lugs of the ST receptacle. A housing (22) is further provided which surrounds and slides over the backbone (24). The housing (22) has two slots therein for accommodating the latch arms, and ramp surfaces (56) proximate the slots for engaging the leading edge of the latch arms. After the connector has been attached to the ST receptacle, it may be disconnected by simply pulling on the housing. The ramp surfaces then contact the latch arms, raising them and disengaging them from the receptacle lugs.
