There are described pyrazolopyridine compounds of the formula: (see formula I) wherein R1 is aryl, R2 is acyl(lower)alkyl, and A is lower alkenylene, and pharmaceutically acceptable salts thereof. The preparation of these compounds, pharmaceutical compositions containing same and their medical uses are also described. These compounds are useful for the treatment of melancholia heart failure, hypertension, renal insufficiency, renal toxicity nephrosis, nephritis, edema, obesity, bronchial asthma, gout, hyperuricemia, sudden infant death syndrome, immunosuppression, diabetes, myocardiac infarction, thrombosis, obstruction, arteriosclerosis obliterans, thrombophlebits, cerebral infarction, transient ischemic attack or angina pectoris.
