Pyridine derivatives of formula (see formula I) their heteroaromatic N-oxides and their pharmaceutically acceptable acid addition salts are disclosed. In the formula z is 0, 1 and 2 and R,R1,R2 and R2 have specified meanings. The compounds exhibit activity as 5-HT1A agonists, antagonists or partial agonists and are useful for the treatment of CNS disorders eg anxiety, as antihypertensives and in treating anorexia.
