The novel compounds of formula (I) wherein R1 is hydrogen, alkyl, substituted alkyl, alkenyl, substituted alkenyl, alkynyl, substitued alkynyl, alkoxy, substituted alkoxy, aryloxy or alkylalkoxy, and R2 is aryloxy; pharmaceutically acceptable salts of an acidic compound of formula (I), and prodrugs thereof can be used in the treatment or control of cancer associated with overexpression of gelatinase-A and/or gelatinase-B, particularly skin cancer, breast cancer, prostate cancer, colon cancer, lung cancer, and gastric cancer, and are also useful for other diseases associated with unregulated degradation of extracellular matrix, including rheumatoid arthritis, osteoarthritis, multiple sclerosis, corneal ulceration, periodontal disease and the like.

Les nouveaux composés de la formule (I), dans laquelle R1 représente hydrogène, alkyle, alkyle substitué, alcényle, alcényle substitué, alkylyle, alkylyle substitué, alcoxy, alcoxy substitué, aryloxy ou alkylalkoxy, et R2 représente aryloxy, les sels pharmaceutiquement acceptables d'un composé acide de la formule (I), et des promédicaments de celui-ci peuvent être utilisés dans le traitement du cancer ou dans la lutte contre le cancer associé à la surexpression de gélatinase A et/ou gélatinase B, en particulier le cancer de la peau, le cancer du sein, le cancer de la prostate, le cancer du colon, le cancer du poumon et le cancer de l'estomac, et sont également utiles pour le traitement d'autres maladies associées à la dégradation non régulée de la matrice extracellulaire, y compris la polyarthrite rhumatoïde, l'ostéoarthrite, la sclérose en plaques, l'ulcération cornéenne, la parodontopathie et des maladies analogues.
