The PYROLYSIS system is developed to be a relatively compact and automatic conversion process of biomass into usable fuels. All components are tested and pre-assembled on a platform and ready to start operation upon delivery (using a standard highway truck-trailer). This automation and portability reduces transport and installation time which helps reduce costs. The system contains a pyrolysis reactor unit, which is smaller and more efficient than conventional reactors on competitive systems. The reactor's retention time is shorter and has fewer and lighter moving parts than conventional reactors of the same daily capacity. This efficiency is achieved by using a new design concept consisting of a rotating heated helix inside a stationary shell. Biomass is injected at one end into the reactor through a gas tight airlock to the inside of the chamber. It is then subjected to the indirect heating by this rotating heated helix that decomposes the biomass in the absence of air or oxygen into a biogas and charcoal. The biomass is never burned but decomposed regardless of its origin. Biogas generated inside the reactor is extracted outside of the system to be used by itself, or in conjunction with any existing fuel system to produce electricity, as a heating source or both. Carbon residue is extracted through a gas tight airlock out of the reactor at the opposite end of the injection.
