A process of pyrometallurgically treating a feed material such as a sulphide ore or concentrate is provided. The process includes the steps of: (a) producing a liquid body of feed material; (b) creating a first reaction zone and a second reaction zone which is in contact with the first reaction zone and is in the liquid body; (C) introducing feed material in particulate form and an oxidising gas into the first reaction zone; (d) allowing in-flight oxidation of feed material to take place in the first reaction zone; (e) allowing at least some of the reaction products of the in-flight oxidation to pass into a second reaction zone; and (f) allowing sulphidation or reduction of the reaction products to take place in the second reaction zone.

L'invention porte sur un procédé pour traiter par voie pyrométallurgique une alimentation, comme un minerai de sulfure ou un concentré. Le procédé comprend les étapes suivantes : a) obtention d'une alimentation sous forme de corps liquide; b) création d'une première zone de réaction et d'une seconde zone de réaction en contact avec la première et se trouvant dans le corps liquide; c) introduction de l'alimentation sous forme particulaire et d'un gaz oxydant dans la première zone de réaction; d) oxydation de l'alimentation passant dans la première zone de réaction; e) transfert d'au moins une partie des produits de réaction de l'oxydation dans la seconde zone de réaction; f) sulfuration ou réduction des produits de réaction dans la seconde zone de réaction.
