DESCRIPTIVE ABSTRACT. Photopyrotechnic priming device incorporating a microlens set by a shape memory material and a pyrotechnic chain using said device. The priming device according to the invention is a miniature device having a hollow body (18) for receiving a pyrotechnic substance (24), a rigid index gradient microlens (30) mounted in the hollow body for focussing a high energy beam having a given wavelength onto the pyrotechnic substance, a shape memory alloy or metal ferrule (32) located in the body (18) and fixing the microlens in the body of the device, the internal diameter, at ambient temperature, of the ferrule being smaller than the diameter of the microlens, a connector (34) fixed to the body (18) securing the microlens-ferrule assembly and that of the optical fibre (12) carrying the laser beam. fig. 2.
