A method of treatment of bacterial infections in humans or animals with comprises administering, in combination with a beta-lactam antibiotic, a therapeutically effective amount of a thiazolidine or proline derivative of formula (I) or a pharmaceutically acceptable, salt, solvate or in vivo hydrolysable ester thereof. Compounds (IA) falling within the scope of formula (I) are also claimed; in formula (I): X is S, S(O)n or CH2; n is 1 or 2; R is hydrogen, a salt forming cation or an in vivo hydrolysable ester-forming group; R1 and R2 are each hydrogen or an organic substituent group; R3 is hydrogen, (C1-6)alkyl optionally substituted by up to three halogen atoms, (C2-6)alkenyl, (C2-6)alkynyl, aryl, aryl(C1-6)alkyl, heterocyclyl or heterocyclyl(C1-6)alkyl; and R4 is hydrogen, or an in vivo hydrolysable acyl group. In compounds (IA) R31 represents(C1-6)alkyl substituted by up to three halogen atoms, aryl, aryl(C1-6)alkyl, heterocyclyl or heterocyclyl(C1-6)alkyl and X is S.
Méthode pour traiter les infections bactériennes chez l'homme et l'animal, consistant à administrer, en combinaison avec un antibiotique à base de bêta-lactame, une quantité thérapeutique d'un dérivé de thiazolidine ou de proline de formule (I), ou encore un de leurs sels, de leur produits de solvatation ou de leurs esters hydrolysables in vivo, acceptables en pharmacie. Les composés (IA) apparentés à la formule (I) sont également revendiqués. Dans la formule (I) : X est S, S(O)n ou CH2; n est 1 ou 2; R est de l'hydrogène, un cation formant un sel ou un groupe formant un ester hydrolysable in vivo; R1 et R2 sont chacun de l'hydrogène ou un groupe organique substituant; R3 est un hydrogène, un groupe alkyle (C1-6), avec substitution facultative par un à trois atomes d'halogène, alcényle (C2-6), alcynyle (C2-6), aryle, arylalkyle (C1-6), hétérocyclyle ou hétérocyclylalkyle (C1-6); R4 est de l'hydrogène ou un groupe acyle hydrolysable in vivo. Dans les composés (IA), R31 représente un alkyle (C1-6), avec substitution par des atomes d'halogène ou des groupes aryles, arylalkyles (C1-6), hétérocyclyles ou hétérocyclylalkyles (C1-6), leur nombre pouvant aller jusqu'à 3, et X étant S.
