A quadrature modulation circuit is incorporated in a radio communication apparatus and selectively implements transmission and reception in an analog mode or in a digital mode using a single circuit. A VCO (Voltage- Controlled Oscillator) or a frequency synthesizer including a VCO has an analog modulation capability, and replaces a local oscillator of a conventional modulator circuit for feeding an output thereof to a digital modulator.
