The invention concerns a quadrature modulator defect estimator comprising two mixers to which two carrier signals are applied along with a modulating signal. The output signals from the mixers are applied to an adder circuit to constitute a modulated signal. According to the invention, the estimator comprises: - means (71) of detecting a primary signal representative of the instantaneous power of the modulated signal; - means (74) of generating a second signal representative of a reference envelope obtained from the modulating signals (X, Y); - means (77) of correcting the amplitude of the said signals according to the average amplitude difference observed between this corrected amplitude signal and the other signal; - processing means (79) providing, from the observed amplitude difference (e) between this corrected amplitude signal and the other signal, at least one signal (E1) relative to the defect.
L'invention concerne notamment un estimateur d'un défaut d'un modulateur en quadrature comprenant deux mélangeurs auxquels sont appliqués deux signaux porteurs ainsi qu'à chacun des mélangeurs un signal modulant. Les signaux de sortie des mélangeurs sont appliqués à un sommateur pour constituer un signal modulé. Selon l'invention, l'estimateur comporte: - des moyens (71) de détection d'un premier signal représentatif de la puissance instantanée du signal modulé: - des moyens (74) de génération d'un second signal représentatif d'une enveloppe de référence obtenue à partir des signaux modulants (X, Y): - des moyens (77) de correction de l'amplitude d'un desdits signaux en fonction de la différence d'amplitude moyenne observée entre ce signal d'amplitude corrigée et l'autre signal; - des moyens (79) de traitement fournissant, à partir de la différence d'amplitude observée (e) entre ce signal d'amplitude corrigée et l'autre signal, au moins un signal (E1) relatif au défaut.
