Disclosed is a Quality of Service (QoS) control mechanism for QoS-aware network applications running on computer devices. The mechanism provides IP socket- based QoS Application Program Interfaces (APIs) for QoS-aware applications for accessing MAC layer QoS function of network access devices. In various embodiments, the QoS mechanism utilizes QoS API over Socket (QAoS) handler and/or a MAC layer QAoS handler wrapper at the network access device to control and monitor the QoS data being transmitted by the application over the active network interface(s).
L'invention concerne un mécanisme de contrôle de qualité de service (QoS) pour des applications réseau conscientes du QoS fonctionnant sur des dispositifs informatiques. Le mécanisme fournit des interfaces de programme d'application (API) QoS sur la base d'une interface de connexion IP pour des applications conscientes du QoS afin d'accéder à une fonction QoS de couche MAC de dispositifs d'accès à un réseau. Selon divers modes de réalisation, le mécanisme QoS utilise un gestionnaire d'API sur la base d'une interface de connexion (QAoS) et/ou une classe enveloppante de gestionnaire de QAoS de couche MAC au niveau du dispositif d'accès à un réseau pour contrôler et surveiller les données QoS qui sont transmises par l'application sur la ou les interfaces réseau actives.
