Abstract The invention relates to new quaternary 6,11- dihydro-dibenzo-[b,e]-thiepine-11-N-alkylnorscopine ethers of general formula Image I wherein R represents a straight-chained or branched alkyl group with 1 to 10 carbon atoms and X(-) represents a pharmacologically harmless anion, such as a halogen atom or a group of an organic sulphonic acid, and new tertiary intermediate products of general formula Image Ia wherein R is as hereinbefore defined and the acid addition salts thereof. The new compounds can be prepared by reacting compounds of general formula Image II wherein X represents a group which can easily be split off anionically (a so-called leaving group) such as a halogen atom, preferably chlorine or bromine, or a group of an organic sulphonic acid, such as the methyl or tosyl group, with compounds of general formula III Image III wherein R is as hereinbefore defined, to form the above-mentioned intermediate products of general formula Ia and subsequently quaternising with compounds of general formula IV CH3 - X IV. The new compounds can be used as spasmolytics or bronchospasmolytics.
