ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE Improved quaternary ammonium compositions are provided wherein quaternized ammonium derivatives of lanolin acids are combined with specific branched-chain diols. These compositions exhibit improved water solubility and have excellent compatibility with anionic emulsifiers and surfactants which make them extremely useful for the preparation of clear cosmetic formulations.
