The cross- linking agents correspond to the formula Image wherein A is hydrogen, hydroxyl, halogen, acylamino, an immonium-ether radical, the radical -NR1R2 with R1 and R2 being hydrogen, alkyl, alkenyl, alkinyl, cycloalkyl, aryl, aralkyl or the nitrogen atom is part of a saturated ring which optionally contains further hetero-atoms, or the radical Image with R3, R4, and R5 being hydrogen, alkyl, alkenyl alkinyl, cycloalkyl, aryl, aralkyl or rthe nitrogen atom is part of a saturated or unsaturated ring which optionally contains further hetero-atoms, B is an ammonium or phosphonium radical and X? is an anion, The process is useful for crosslinking e.g. gelatine layers in photographic materials.
