QUICK-CHILLING METHOD OF FILLING A STRANDED ARTICLE WITH A WATERPROOFING COMPOSITION Abstract of the Disclosure The interstices of a cable core are filled with a waterproofing composition formed of two initially distinct ingredients, by mixing the composition to a homogeneous state at a temperature above the liquification temperature of the composition and at which the two ingredients will go into solution and readily achieve a homogeneous condition. A flowing stream of the resultant homogeneous solution then is simultaneously mixed and rapidly cooled to the liquification temperature of the composition in separate and distinct stages, to prevent separation of the ingredients during cooling and so that the composition retains its homogeneous nature. The rapidly cooled homogeneous composition next is applied to the advancing cable core under pressure, to force the mixture into the interstices of the cable core, and then supported about the cable core while being rapidly cooled further to a homogeneous and substantially self-supporting state, whereupon the support of the composition is terminated to avoid removal of the composition from the periphery of the cable core as a result of friction or "viscous drag" between the composition and a supporting structure for the composition. -i-
