An oven (10) for cooking by hot air impingement includes a housing (14) defining a cooking chamber (16) adapted to receive a food product (12) for cooking, a hot air plenum (18) configured and dimensioned to hold a volume of air and a conduit (20) for providing gaseous communication therebetween. Associated with the plenum (18) is a thermal energy source (25) for heating gas disposed in the plenum (18).
