For use with vehicles like flat bed trucks and pick-ups, a mechanism is provided for easily and reliably stowing and deploying a container of the kind used to carry bulk materials, or vehicles like snowmobiles and all-terrain vehicles. A lower jib is pivotally connected to the truck platform and can swing about the pivot location between a first position in which it extends forwardly and a second position in which it extends generally upwardly from the first location. An upper jib is pivotally connected at one end to an intermediate location on the lower jib, and is pivotally connected at the other end to a part of the container by which the container can be raised. A first cylinder causes the lower jib to swing between its first and second positions, while a second cylinder causes the upper jib to pivot about the intermediate location. At the rear of the platform there are idler roller means for guiding the bottom deck of the container. The rearward end of the container supports wheels allowing the rearward end to run along a supporting surface.
