QUICK OPENING REMOVABLE TRAY SECTIONS FOR FLUID CONTACT VESSELS ABSTRACT Novel quick opening removable tray sections or deck plates for the trays of fluid contact vessels having foldable closures or covers adapted to rest upon frame members which coact to form the perimeters of one or more polygonal, prefer- ably quadrangular, complementary openings in each tray. Each of the covers has at least a pair of closure panels hingedly connected to each other at their adjacent inner margins. Opposed outer lateral or side margins of the closure panels, which overlie complementary portions of lateral or side frame members in spaced relationship, extend in the same general direction as their adjacent inner margins. At least one, preferably both, of these opposed outer lateral margins are slidably confined whereby the covers are removable upon ele- vating their closure panels at their hinged inner margins and simultaneously sliding said outer lateral margins of said panels toward each other and out of confinement so as to per- mit folding of said covers. If desired, one of the opposed outer lateral margins of the closure panels may be hingedly connected to the adjacent edge portion of the tray instead of being slidably confined. Frictional fasteners detachably secure the end margins of the closure panels adjacent their hinged connection to the underlying portions of the frame members at the opposed ends of each tray opening. Usually, each of the quick opening tray sections is oblong and each of the hinged connections extends longitudinally between the closure panels whereby the latter are oblong and the lesser dimension or width of said tray section may be almost twice the maximum dimension of the manholes in the wall of the fluid contact vessel. Also, it is desirable to provide a depending flange at least at one of the adjacent inner margins of the closure panels to facilitate mounting of the hinged connec- tion at the underside of said panels as well as to reinforce both of said inner panel margins. Any one of the deck plates of the tray may be removably mounted in this manner.
