A novel quick release fastener system (44) for efficient and reliable attachment, disengagement and reattachment of components secured by the fastener system. The fastener system includes an elongated fastener (48) having a shank (60), a drive structure (64) on one end, an opposite end of which having a threaded portion (68). The fastener system also includes an expandable nut body (52) which is engaged with the threaded portion of the fastener, which nut body is adapted to be engaged in a bore. Nut spreading structures (56) are provided on the nut body and the fastener which spread or expand the nut body when the fastener is rotated and engaged axially of the nut body. The nut body is initially retained on the threaded portion of the fastener with the nut spreading structures disengaged. A work piece is provided with a bore for receiving the expandable nut body. A key (130) is provided in the bore (116) and a slot (78) is provided in the nut body being sized and dimensioned for receiving the key therein. The slot allows the nut body to expand with the key engaged in the slot preventing the nut body from rotating in the bore. Nominal rotation of the fastener relative to the nut body results in engaging of the nut spreading structures on the fastener and nut to expand the nut body and thereby forcibly contact and engage abutting inside surfaces of the bore.

Le corps de l'écrou et l'élément de fixation comportent des structures d'écartement de l'écrou (56) qui écartent ou dilatent l'écrou lorsque la tige de fixation est engagée et tournée dans l'écrou. En position initiale, l'écrou est engagé sur le pas de vis de la tige de fixation mais les structures d'écartement ne sont pas engagées. Une pièce comporte une cavité prévue pour recevoir l'écrou. La cavité (116) comporte une nervure (130) qui s'engage dans une rainure (78) aménagée dans l'écrou à cet effet. L'écrou peut se dilater lorsque la nervure est engagée dans la rainure, par contre la nervure l'empêche de tourner dans la cavité. La rotation de la tige de fixation par rapport à l'écrou engage les structures d'écartement de l'écrou et de la tige de fixation, ce qui dilate l'écrou et le met en contact forcé avec la surface intérieure contiguë de la cavité.
