The invention comprises a quilted mattress cover for fitting mattresses of various thicknesses and methods of making the same. The mattress cover is comprised of a quilted top portion and a side portion of a quilted upper portion, an inelastic, textile fabric lower portion and a bottom elastic strand. The top portion is comprised of a textile fabric outer layer, a textile fabric inner layer and fiberfill therebetween. The upper portion extends from the top portion and is comprised of a textile fabric outer layer, a textile fabric inner layer and fiberfill therebetween. The lower portion has a top edge secured to a bottom periphery of the upper portion and is comprised of a textile fabric.
