Abstract of the Disclosure Quinoxalines of the formula Image are provided, in which R1 is hydrogen if R3 and R4 conjointly are -O(CH2)pO-, or is -CH2OR, -CH2NRR', -CH2OCOR, -CH2Cl, -CH2Br, -CH2CN, -CH2SR, -CH2SCN, -CH2O(CH2)mOR, -CH2(OCH2CH2)nOR, -CH2SO2R5, -CH2PO(OR5)2, -CH2SO3R6 or -CH2PO(OR6)2 and R2 is lower alkyl, -CH2PO(OR5)2, -CH2PO(OR6)2 or CH2SO3R6, R3 and R4 independently are lower alkyl, lower alkoxy, RO(CH2)mO- or RO(CH2CH2O)n- or R3 and R4 conjointly are -O(CH2)pO-, R and R' independently are hydrogen or lower alkyl, R5 is lower alkyl, R6 is hydrogen, an alkali metal cation or -?(R)4, m is 3 or 4, n is 1 to 3 and p is 1 or 2. The quinoxalines are useful as bleach catalysts, especially as dye bleach catalysts, in processing baths for the photographic silver dye bleach process.
