PRECIS DE LA DIVULGATION: L'invention concerne un procédé de préparation d'acides hydroxyarylglycoliques racémiques et produits nouveaux en résultant Suivant ce procédé on condense dans l'eau en présence d'un agent alcalin, à une température comprise entre 35 et 100°C, l'acide glyoxylique sur un excès ou non de dérivé aromatique phénolique, autre que le phénol, possédant au moins un proton sur un des sommets ortho ou para par rapport à la fonction phénol. Ce procédé permet l'obtention d'acides nouveaux tels que l'acide hydroxy-4 tertiobutyl-3 mandélique, l'acide hydroxy-2 tertiobutyl-5 mandélique, l'acide chloro-3 hydroxy-4 mandé- lique, l'acide fluoro-2 hydroxy-4 mandélique, l'acide diméthoxy 3,5 hydroxy-4 mandélique monohydraté, l'acide hydroxy-2 méthyl-5 mandélique, l'acide (hydroxy-1 naphtyl-2) glycolique, l'acide éthyl-4 hydroxy-2 mandélique, et l'acide hydroxy-4 méthyl-3 mandélique.
