ABSTRACT String breakage in racquet sports can be attributable in part to the friction between abutting strings that cross at intersection points of the string mesh. A ball contacts the strings numerous times during a game, and the pressure of the ball at the intersection points forces the abutting strings to rub against each other. The compound effect of this friction results in string breakage. A racquet string saver composition and method are disclosed for reducing or delaying string breakage on a racquet. The composition comprises a tackifying agent in combination with an acceptable carrier. The method comprises the step of application of a tackifying agent to racquet strings.
