P/8188/MRSL - 16 - (Figure 5) ABSTRACT Radar Receiver FMCW radar return signals are converted to i.f. in front end section 6, digitised in A-D converter 16, and reduced to in-phase and quadrature base band components at a lower sampling rate in filter section 8. The returns are compared with a separate reference waveform signal from generator 25 for each range cell 1, 2, 3 etc by means of multiplier 26 and accumulate and dump function 27. The reference waveforms for subsequent range cells are delayed by one sample period. The provision of separate correlation of de-ramping for each range cell enables non-linear sweep wave forms to be employed, whereas the prior art method using a single Fourier Transform for all range cells simultaneously restricted operation to a linear sweep waveform.
