The invention relates to a radial split diffuser (3) with an inner casing (13) and an outer casing (14) joined together along a cylindrical joint (15). Each diffuser passage is intersected by and extends transversely across the joint. The advantages of this design include: the elimination of a transition within the initial portion of the passages where air flow speeds are supersonic and minute surface discontinuities can significantly effect performance; and the simplification of manufacturing through use of metal castings to replace sheet metal fabrications in the manufacture of diffusers. The joint (15) in the present invention can be located downstream from the diffuser inlet a sufficient distance in a lower velocity area. The joint is located to enable access for precise machining of the critical initial portion of the passages within the inner casing, and to minimise air flow disturbance in the initial portion.

Cette invention a trait à un diffuseur à division radiale (3) possédant un tubage interne (13) et un tubage externe (14) réunis le long d'un joint cylindrique (15). Chaque passage du diffuseur est intersecté par le joint et s'étend transversalement en travers de celui-ci. Parmi les avantages de cette conception, figurent l'élimination de toute transition entre la partie initiale des passages où la vitesse des débits d'air est supersonique et où de faibles discontinuités superficielles peuvent influer notablement sur les bonnes caractéristiques de fonctionnement, la simplification de la production du fait de l'utilisation de pièces de fonte à la place de tôles métalliques lors de la fabrication des diffuseurs. Le joint (15) selon cette invention peut être situé en aval de l'entrée du diffuseur à une distance suffisante dans une zone de vitesse réduite. Ce joint est positionné de manière à offrir un accès aux fins d'un usinage précis de la partie initiale critique des passages dans le tubage interne ainsi qu'à réduire les perturbations du débit d'air dans la partie initiale.
