To improve the durability of the crown reinforcement (2) of a road tyre for lorries and the like, the pantographing ply (20) and the radially outermost working ply (22) are the broadest of the reinforcement (2) and radially coupled by means of a thin layer of rubber over an axial distance l equal to at least 2 % of the axial width L¿0? of the pantographing ply (20).
