ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE According to the present invention, a furnace is heated by means of a radiant heater, radiating infra- red rays downwardly in the furnace to a non-reflective conduit conveying a heat collecting fluid medium through the furnace. As the rays impinge on the surface of the conduit they are converted to heat energy which is conducted through the conduit to the fluid medium.
