RADIATOR CORE HAVING SOLDERED CONNECTIONS ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE: A radiator core is provided that has upper and lower header plates, a plurality of tubes extending between the header plates, and a plurality of fins fitted to and extending from the tubes. Each of the upper and lower header plates has a plurality of apertures formed in it, one for each of the tubes, and each aperture is surrounded by a collar. The plurality of tubes extends through the respective collars in each of the upper and lower header plates, and the connection between each of the collars and the respective tubes is soldered. The soldered connection is made by first force fitting the header plates which are preformed having the collars in them over the tubes, then dipping the assembly of the header plate and tubes first into a flux bath and then into a solder bath. The use of the collars significantly increases the contact area between the tubes and the header plates, thereby rendering a stronger joint.
