A broadcast receiver suitable for receiving broadcast signals transferred by use of signal format of IBOC system. The broadcast receiver comprises a channel seek instructing means that instructs a commencement of a channel seek operation for searching for and selecting selectable channels in order of frequency; a channel seek control means that commences and controls the channel seek operation in response to the instruction from the channel seek instructing means; and a multichannel determining means that determines whether a frequency channel being selected is providing a multichannel digital broadcast. When the multichannel determining means determines that a frequency channel being selected is providing a multichannel digital broadcast, the channel seek control means searches for the next subchannel in order of identification code before searching for the next frequency channel.
