Radio modem designed to equip a device (1) such as a portable computer, the said modem being intended for insertion into a slot provided in the said device, and the said modem being essentially characterized in that it includes two components (2, 3) that are arranged and equipped with respect to each other so as to form a memory card reader, and in that, the said slot having dimensions designed to accommodate a modem made in the form of a so-called equipment card, of specific thickness, each of the said two components (2, 3) is produced by means of an equipment card of a thickness that is less than this specific thickness. Modem radio destiné à équiper un appareil (1) tel que notamment un ordinateur portable, ledit modem étant destiné à être inséré dans une fente prévue dans ledit appareil, et ledit modem étant essentiellement caractérisé en ce qu'il comporte deux éléments (2, 3) qui sont d'une part disposés l'un par rapport à l'autre, et d'autre part équipés, de manière à former un lecteur de carte à mémoire, et en ce que, ladite fente ayant des dimensions adaptées pour recevoir un modem réalisé sous forme de carte dite carte d'équipement, d'épaisseur déterminée, chacun desdits deux éléments (2, 3) est réalisé au moyen d'une carte d'équipement d'épaisseur inférieure à ladite épaisseur déterminée.
