RADIO-OPAQUE DENTAL COMPOSITIONS ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE Thorium oxide or tantalum oxide, or combinations thereof are used as the x-ray material for radio-opaque filler compo- sitions having particular applicability in dental restorative compositions. The filler compositions contain from about 3% weight to about 10% by weight , based on the total filler compositions, of the x-ray absorbing materials and the remainder being conventional particulate glass or silica, quartz or ceramic filler material. The radio opaque filler compositions are insoluble and non-leachable in alkaline, acidic or neutral aqueous environments, are essentially non-toxic, are either essentially colorless or translucent, and are compatible with acrylic monomers and other polymerizable binder systems
