A radio system (1, 12, 30, 33) comprises a radio (1) having a transmit mode. A press to talk (PTT) swith (34) is located in a remote module (33), the remote module also comprising a transmitter that transmitss a signal (37) to a receiver (47) associated with the radio (1), the receiver in response opening a communication channel to the radio. The remote module enables (33) the PTT switch (34) to be located at a convenient location to the operator.
