A radio transmitting device includes a radio transmitter for one or more customers with which customers may attract the attention of a service provider. The radio transmitter emits a coded signal which includes a key that identifies the transmitter (and therefore the customer), and also, potentially, the customer's specific requirement. One or more radio receivers are employed by the service providers to respond to customers' calls for service. These log the customers who require attention, and potentially the nature and urgency of their need, the time of their request and the number of calls they have placed since they were last responded to.
