The present invention relates to polymeric materials that are labeled with colloidal metals, preferably colloidal gold, to processes for producing the labeled polymeric material, and to methods of using the materials in prophylactic, therapeutic and cosmetic applications. Specifically, the invention relates to porous injectable and implantable microparticles, preferably microspheres, that are associated with radioactive colloidal metals such that the microparticles are visible or detectable under regular light, by radiological and/or magnetic resonance imaging techniques, or both. The microparticles having radioactive colloidal metals are particularly useful for embolization, radiation therapy, drug delivery, gene therapy, and other prophylactic or therapeutic medical applications.
L'invention concerne des matériaux polymères qui sont marqués par des métaux colloïdaux, de préférence de l'or colloïdal; des procédés de production associés; et des procédés d'utilisation de ces matériaux dans des applications prophylactiques, thérapeutiques et cosmétiques. De manière spécifique, l'invention concerne des microparticules poreuses injectables et implantables, de préférence des microsphères, qui sont associées à des métaux colloïdaux radioactifs de façon que ces microparticules soient visibles ou détectables à la lumière normale, au moyen de techniques radiologiques et/ou d'imagerie par résonance magnétique. Lesdites microparticules comprenant des métaux colloïdaux radioactifs s'avèrent particulièrement utiles pour l'embolisation, la radiothérapie, l'administration de médicament, la thérapie génique, et d'autres applications médicales prophylactiques ou thérapeutiques.
