P-1489 RADIOPAQUE, OPTICALLY TRANSPARENT MEDICAL TUBING ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE A radiopaque, optically transparent catheter has a layer of a clear radiopaque polymer encapsulated by a layer of clear non-toxic biocompatible base polymer. Preferred clear radiopaque polymers are thermoplastic polyurethanes having iodine of bromine atoms covalently bound to the polymer chain. Preferred base polymers are thermoplastic polyurethanes. The encapsulated layer may be a stripe or an annular layer having base polymer layers laminated on both surfaces thereof.
