A process for producing a high VI/low volatility lubricating oil basestock and a lubricating oil basestock prepared by said process. The process comprises subjecting the raffinate from a solvent extraction step to a two step, single stage hydroconversion process wherein the first step involves severe hydroconversion of the raffinate followed by a cold hydrofinishing step.

L'invention porte sur un procédé qui permet de fabriquer une huile de base pour huile lubrifiante à indice de viscosité élevé et à faible volatilité, ainsi que sur une huile de base pour huiles lubrifiantes élaborée au moyen de ce procédé. Ce procédé consiste à soumettre le raffinat, obtenu au moyen d'une extraction par solvants, à un procédé d'hydroconversion à phase unique consistant en deux étapes, à savoir : une hydroconversion forte du raffinat, suivie d'un hydrofinissage à froid.
