Abstract of the Disclosure A rail aligning gauge provides a method for effective alignment of guide rails within an elevator system. The rail aligning gauge is used during the installation of the guide rails to space apart and in parallel. the guide rails. The rail aligning gauge includes a clamping mechanism attaching to the guide rails to be spaced apart and an adjustable calibrating mechanism to set the desired distance therebetween. That preset distance is maintained throughout the installation procedure.
