ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE A drive system for a Kevel on a dock which pulls a vessel along a dock as well as a rail car driving system including a double truck assembly which is operative on rails along side an outer surface of the main rails of a railroad track. The drive system is secured to the ends of the rail ties at the ends of the double truck assembly rails. The drive system includes motor driven drums which drive cables connected to opposite ends of the double truck assembly. The cables are located within the spacing between the truck rails and fit within grooves within the outer surface of the drums so as to be driven by friction. An idler roller applies a downward force on the cables to insure that a friction drive occurs and an adjustable piston is provided to apply a tension on the cable as the trucks move the rail cars. 13
