416-87 ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE A combination of a rail base plate and fastener clips fastening the foot of a rail to the base plate. The base plate has a pair of spaced parallel rail foot edge engaging surfaces facing each other and a lower surface. A pair of identical spring steel U-shaped fastener clips each have an upper limb, a lower limb, and a heel joining the limbs. The upper surface of the lower limb has an upwardly facing concave surface. A pair of clip lock protuberances stand up from the base plate. Aperture surfaces define apertures outboard of the protuberances. The under surface of each protuberance comprises a downwardly projecting con- vex surface wholly above the said base plate lower surface by a distance which exceeds the thickness of the clip lower limb. The arrangement is such that, upon assembly, each clip is strained with the lower limb extending through an aperture. The upper limb bears downwardly on a foot of the rail and each lower limb concave surface bears upwardly against a downwardly facing convex surface. The invention is of wide application. In particular it is useful with sleepers that are not new and with differing shapes of sleepers.
