RAILROAD GONDOLA CAR Abstract Of The Disclosure Double tub gondola railroad car which has substantial overhangs at its respective ends, each overhang having a substantially horizontal floor and a substantially vertical end wall. As the overhang is provided by shortening the wheelbase of the car, the width of the car is increased for a given size classification, thereby permitting a larger load to be carried. The brake equipment of the car is carried beneath the floor of the overhang, also increasing the capacity of the car. An exemplary car is a gondola for carrying wood chips or other light lading, in which an increased bulk capacity is provided. Other aspects of the disclosure are tie plates joining and supporting the tubs of the gondola and the center sill of the car and stress concentration alleviators attached to the tub ends to provide a smooth transition of stresses at the junction of longitudinal support members with the ends of each tub.
