A clamping plate (12) for attachment to clamp bracket (7) of a rotary ballast broom reel (8) is disclosed. A drum (8) is adapted to rotate such that the distal end of the broom elements (11) rotate to dislodge railway track ballast. A depending leg (16) has an internal bore (17) therein. A bolt (14) includes thread which is completely encased within the bore (17) and thus is not exposed to flying debris resulting from action of the broom element (11) on railway ballast. An extruded broom element (11) has a main portion (60) of substantially constant circular cross section with the distal end portion (61) tapering outwardly to provide an increased thickness to resist wear. A process of extruding such a broom element is also disclosed.

L'invention porte sur une plaque (12) de serrage destinée à être fixée sur un support (7) d'un arbre (8) de brosse rotative à ballast. La rotation d'un tambour (8) permet de faire tourner l'extrémité distale des éléments (11) de la brosse de façon à déloger le ballast de la voie ferrée. Un socle (16) solidaire est constitué d'un alésage interne (17). Un boulon (14) fileté est totalement engagé dans l'alésage (17) et n'est donc pas exposé aux débris volants provenant de l'élément (11) de la brosse en fonctionnement sur le ballast de la voie ferrée. Un élément (11) de brosse extrudé comporte une partie principale (60) d'une section circulaire pratiquement stable à extrémité distale (61) conique qui confère à cet élément une épaisseur plus importante pour lui permettre de résister à l'usure. L'invention porte également sur un procédé d'extrusion de cet élément de brosse.
