ABSTRACT Disclosed is a railway car for transporting vehicles which car includes a body, a deck supported on the car body and having a first deck section fixed on the body. A second deck section is hingedly connected to the first section for swinging movement upwardly to a raised position and down- wardly to a lower position. A counterbalancing arrangement is supported on the car for counterbalancing the second deck section between its positions. An improved lock arrangement is provided for locking the second deck section selectively in each of its positions. The lock arrangement includes vertically spaced lower and upper keeper elements on the car body and an S-shaped latch member pivotally mounted intermediate its ends on the second deck section, the latch member having first and second keeper engaging notches at opposite ends. The first and second keeper engaging notches of the latch member are adapted to selectively engage the lower and upper keepers respectively in locking relation to maintain the second deck section in its respective positions attendant to swinging the latch in first and second directions.
