A railcar with longitudinal discharge openings is disclosed. The railcar includes an underframe, a pair of sidewall assemblies and a hopper formed between the sidewall assemblies. The underframe has a center sill and a pair of side sills. The center sill is disposed between the pair of side sills along a generally longitudinal axis of the railcar. A plurality of horizontal cross bearers extend between and are coupled with the pair of side sills and are spaced longitudinally from each other along the center sill. First and second diagonal cross braces extend from upper portions of sidewall assemblies to lower portions of other sidewall assemblies. The first and second diagonal cross braces are engaged with opposite sides to the horizontal cross bearers to each other. A horizontal brace extends between first ends of the first and second cross braces.
