ABSTRACT A railway vehicle wheel has resonance absorbers composed of mass and damping material arranged on the wheel flange, tyre, rim or disc at a distance from the hub. The resonance absorbers are tuned to the character- istic frequency of said wheel for the radial fundamental oscillation (four nodal points on the periphery). Each rail also has, resonance absorbers distributed over its length and tuned to the characteristic frequency of said rail wheel for the radial fundamental oscillation (four nodal points on the periphery), are secured to damp said oscillations of the rail. In addition to the tongue tuned to the characteristic frequency of the wheel for the radial fundamental oscillation, each absorber has further tongues tuned to the characteristic frequency for screeching and running noises, all tongues of each resonance absorber being arranged on the same base.
