The invention provides a garden rake that has the function of a conventional rake as well as a tool to pick up leaves. This invention includes a compound rake, a rake handle and a leaf pick up mechanism. The compound rake consists of two sub rakes that are hinge connected to each other at opposite end of the rakes tine points. The hinge connection allows the two sub rakes to Close and open. The rake handle is tube shaped, allowing a control shaft and a control spring to pass through it. The leaf pick up mechanism includes a connecting rod assembly, a control shaft and a control spring, together with other control elements, the leaf pick up mechanism activates the opening and closing of the compound rake.
