A stiffener (24) has an elongate web (30) element and at least one elongate foot element (28), the web element and foot element being connected by a curved elbow, wherein the radius of the curved elbow is greater over a first portion (C) of the stiffener than over a second portion (E) of the stiffener. A roll forming die (32) comprises first (34) and second (36) rollers, the first roller having a shaped section arranged to be located within a correspondingly shaped recess in the circumferential surface of the second roller, the first and second rollers defining a gap (40) there between corresponding to the desired shape to be imparted on an elongate member (20) passed between the rollers, the desired shape including a curved elbow between a web and a foot portion, wherein the shape of the recess in the second roller and the shape of the corresponding section of the first roller vary around a portion of the rollers circumference such that the radius of curvature of the gap between the rollers corresponding to the curved elbow varies between a minimum and a maximum value. The stiffener is formed by feeding an elongate member through the roll forming die and rotating the die rollers between a first and a second position as a portion of the elongate member is fed between the die rollers, whereby the radius of the curved elbow formed in the stiffener is varied.
L'invention concerne un raidisseur doté dun élément allongé de toile et d'au moins un élément allongé de pied, lélément de toile et lélément de pied étant raccordés par un coude incurvé, le rayon du coude incurvé étant plus élevé sur une première partie du raidisseur que sur une deuxième partie du raidisseur. Une filière à galets comporte un premier et un deuxième galet, le premier galet présentant une section de profil disposée de façon à se situer dans un évidement de forme correspondante dans la surface circonférentielle du deuxième galet, le premier et le deuxième galet définissant entre eux un intervalle correspondant à la forme que lon souhaite donner à une pièce allongée que lon fait passer entre les galets, la forme souhaitée comprenant un coude incurvé entre des parties de toile et de pied, la forme de lévidement ménagé dans le deuxième galet et la forme de la section correspondante du premier galet variant sur une partie de la circonférence des galets de telle sorte que le rayon de courbure de lintervalle entre les galets correspondant au coude incurvé varie entre des valeurs minimale et maximale. Le raidisseur est formé en engageant une pièce allongée à travers la filière à galets et en faisant tourner les galets de la filière entre une première et une deuxième position tandis quune partie de la pièce allongée est engagée entre les galets de la filière, faisant ainsi varier le rayon du coude incurvé formé dans le raidisseur.
