A random engagement roller chain sprocket (112, 114) for use primarily in automotive engine chain drive applications which incorporates different asymmetrical tooth profiles for improved noise reduction. In particular, the sprocket (112, 114) includes a first plurality of sprocket teeth each having a first tooth profile (132) including a first engaging flank (304), a first engaging root (pT.C), and a first flat (144) positioned between the first engaging flank and first engaging root wherein a first roller (314) initially contacts the first flat at the onset of the first roller meshing with the sprocket. The sprocket also includes a second plurality of sprocket teeth each having a second tooth profile (136) different from the first tooth profile and including a second engaging flank (302), a second engaging root (Pt.B) , and a second flat (lambda) tangent to the second engaging root remote from the second engaging flank wherein a second roller (342) initially contacts the second flat at the onset of meshing between the second roller and the sprocket.
Pignon pour chaîne à rouleaux à engagement aléatoire convenant principalement aux applications à commande par chaîne dans les moteurs automobiles. Ce pignon comporte des dents présentant différents profils asymétriques permettant d'améliorer la réduction du bruit. Le pignon comporte en particulier un premier ensemble de dents dont chacune présente un premier profil comportant un premier flanc d'engagement une première racine d'engagement et une première partie plate placée entre le premier flanc et la première racine d'engagement. Le premier rouleau commence par entrer en contact avec la première partie plate au moment de l'engrènement du premier rouleau avec le pignon. Le pignon comporte également un second ensemble de dents, dont chacune présente un second profil, différent du premier profil et comportant un second flanc d'engagement et une seconde racine et une seconde partie plate, tangente à la seconde racine et espacée du second flanc. Un second rouleau commence par entrer en contact avec le seconde partie plate au début de l'engrènement du second rouleau avec le pignon.
