An abrasion tool that is selectively configurable for spin or random-orbit without the need for a reversible motor. The tool uses two collars, each having half of the desired offset and half of the counterweight. In spin mode, the collars are rotated so that the counterweights and the offsets cancel each other and the head is balanced and concentric. The sanding plate is coupled to the collars for maximum sanding. This allows coarse sanding with minimal vibrations. In the random-orbit mode, the rotating collar is rotated 180~so that the counterweights are aligned on one side of the axis of spin and the offsets are combined on the opposite side of the axis. The two collars are pinned to each other but not to the sanding plate. Means is provided for feeding water to the sanding head to assist in finishing those materials that benefit from wet grinding.
L'invention concerne un outil d'abrasion pouvant être sélectivement configuré de façon à se déplacer selon un mode rotatif simple ou selon un mode aléatoire sans avoir recours à un moteur d'inversion. Ledit outil utilise deux colliers, chacun d'eux possédant la moitié du balourd désiré et la moitié du contrepoids. En mode rotatif, les colliers sont mis en rotation de sorte que les contrepoids et les balourds s'annulent et que la tête est équilibrée et concentrique. Une plaque de sablage est couplée aux colliers afin d'obtenir un sablage maximum, ce qui permet un sablage grossier avec un minimum de vibrations. En mode orbite aléatoire, le collier rotatif tourne à 180· de sorte que les contrepoids sont alignés sur un côté de l'axe de rotation et les balourds sont combinés sur le côté opposé dudit axe. Les deux colliers sont clavetés l'un à l'autre mais ne sont pas clavetés à la plaque de sablage. Des moyens permettent de fournir de l'eau à la tête de sablage afin d'obtenir un fini pour ces matériaux qui bénéficient d'un meulage à l'eau.
