An apparatus and method for image registration of a template image (100) with a target image (120) with large deformation. The apparatus and method involve computing a large deformation transform based on landmark manifolds, image data or both. The apparatus and method are capable of registering images with a small number of landmark points (102, 104, 114). Registering the images is accomplished by applying the large deformation transform.

L'invention concerne un appareil et un procédé permettant d'enregistrer une image gabarit (100), laquelle comprend une image cible (120) présentant une grande déformation. Selon le procédé de cette invention, ledit appareil calcule la transformée d'une grande déformation sur la base d'ensembles de points de repère, de données images, ou des deux.
